Group Term Life Insurance

Group term life is the benefit no one thinks about until a family needs it. A review makes sure it works when it matters, for every employee on the roll.

What Kavaach reviews

What we look at in your group term life insurance policy

Group term life pays a lump sum to an employee's family if the employee passes away while covered. It's inexpensive relative to health cover and often bundled in without much attention. The details that matter, the sum assured basis, free cover limits, and whether nominee records are current, are exactly the details that tend to be missed. A Kavaach review checks them.

  • Sum assured basisFlat amount, multiple of salary or graded by band, and whether that basis still reflects your workforce.
  • Free cover limit and medical underwritingWhich employees are covered without medicals, and what happens above the limit.
  • Riders: accidental death, disability, critical illnessWhat's included, what's optional, and whether any of it duplicates the group health policy.
  • Nominee records and claim processWhether nominations are on file for everyone, and how a family would actually make a claim.
  • Additions, deletions and premium adjustmentsHow joiners and leavers are handled through the year.
  • Tax and compliance framingHow the policy sits alongside statutory obligations; we explain the structure, your CA confirms treatment.

Who should reach out

HR and finance leads at companies offering, or considering, life cover as a benefit; employers with lender- or client-mandated employee cover; organisations whose headcount or salary bands have changed since the policy was set up.

Compare it yourself

Prefer to start on your own? Use the Kavaach self-serve portal to verify your number and compare what's available for your business. Some commercial lines need a person to compare wordings; if yours isn't listed, your Saathi picks it up from there.

  1. Enter your mobile number
  2. Verify with the OTP you receive
  3. Compare plans on the dashboard and buy

Kavaach is not an insurer, broker or agent. A review is a second opinion on fit and coverage, not a recommendation to buy, switch or cancel. We do not guarantee premiums, savings or approval. Whatever path you pick, the decision stays with you.

Frequently asked questions

Is group term life the same as EDLI?

No. EDLI is a statutory scheme linked to EPF. Group term life is a voluntary employer benefit, sometimes structured to replace EDLI with insurer approval. We'll explain how the two sit together in your case.

Should the sum assured be a flat amount or salary-linked?

Both are common. Flat is simple; salary-linked tracks responsibility. We'll show what each would mean for your team and your premium.

Does cover continue when an employee leaves?

Usually not; some insurers offer conversion to an individual policy. It's worth knowing what your policy says so you can tell exiting employees clearly.

Can we set this up on the self-serve portal?

Group policies need employee data and employer details, which suits a Saathi conversation better than a dashboard. Start there.
