Motor Insurance

Motor renewals are the easiest to click through without reading. They're also where a wrong IDV or a missing add-on quietly costs the most.

What Kavaach reviews

What we look at in a motor insurance policy

Motor insurance renews every year, usually with a link that arrives a week before expiry. The fastest thing to do is pay it. A Kavaach review takes the same document and checks three things: is the declared value right for your vehicle today, are you paying for add-ons you don't need or missing one you do, and is your no-claim bonus intact? Then you decide whether to renew as-is, adjust, or compare.

  • Insured Declared Value (IDV)Whether the IDV reflects the current market value of your vehicle. Too low and a total-loss claim falls short; too high and you overpay every year.
  • Own damage vs. third partyThird-party cover is mandatory under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. We check whether your own-damage cover is present, current, and matched to how you use the vehicle.
  • No-claim bonus (NCB)Whether your NCB is being carried correctly at renewal, and what a small claim would cost you in lost bonus versus paying out of pocket.
  • Add-ons: zero depreciation, engine protect, roadside assistanceWhich add-ons make sense for your vehicle's age and use, and which are being renewed by habit.
  • Compulsory personal accident coverWhether the owner-driver personal accident cover is in place and whether it duplicates cover you already hold elsewhere.
  • Exclusions and claim conditionsConsumables, depreciation on parts, driving-licence and permit conditions, and the claim process for your insurer.
The coverage gap

Cover that was right once, and drifted

Policies stay fixed; lives, cities and businesses don't. The gap between what you're covered for and what you'd actually need tends to open slowly and silently. A review measures it.

Health cover vs. city hospital costs62%
Term cover vs. family need45%
Motor IDV vs. market value80%
Property sum insured vs. rebuild cost55%

Illustrative only. These are conceptual examples of how cover can drift from need over time, not statistics, benchmarks or a prediction for any policy.

Kavaach is not an insurer, broker or agent. A review is a second opinion on fit and coverage, not a recommendation to buy, switch or cancel. We do not guarantee premiums, savings or approval. Whatever path you pick, the decision stays with you.

Frequently asked questions

My renewal is due in two days. Is that enough time?

Usually yes. Send the renewal notice and the previous policy on WhatsApp and we'll flag anything that needs attention before you pay. If time is genuinely short, renew first so you're never uninsured; a lapsed policy also puts your NCB at risk.

What is a fair IDV?

IDV is typically the manufacturer's listed selling price less depreciation per the tariff schedule, but insurers allow some adjustment. We'll show you where your IDV sits and what changing it does to both premium and claim.

Should I take zero depreciation on an older car?

It depends on the vehicle's age, how you use it and what the add-on costs at your insurer. For some vehicles it's clearly worth it; for others it isn't. We'll lay it out and you choose.

Can I compare motor quotes myself?

Yes. The self-serve portal at insurance.kavaach.in lets you verify your mobile number with an OTP and compare motor plans directly.
